Cathleen Galgiani was elected to the Assembly in 2006. A strong advocate of agriculture, Cathleen was recently named as Chair of the Assembly Agriculture Committee. Galgiani says she will fight to ensure that “California’s largest industry, agriculture and food production, remains competitive and strong.”
Galgiani is a leading champion of the High Speed Rail Bond, which would link the Valley to the Bay Area and Southern California with bullet trains to transport passengers from San Francisco to Los Angeles in just under 2 1/2 hours.
Cathleen’s commitment to reducing state spending led her to enact a law that prevents Medi-Cal fraud. She also carried a measure to extend the Telemedicine program, which provides health care to underserved patients in rural areas while reducing costs.
Galgiani has fought to protect children by supporting tough laws to prevent child abuse and stop sexual predators. She authored a measure to require that computer technicians who find child pornography on computers they are servicing to report it to law enforcement.
In the wake of the home mortgage crisis, Galgiani held foreclosure prevention workshops throughout the Valley to help those families struggling to hold onto their homes. I helped pass legislation to authorize the California Housing Finance Agency to create a program to refinance the loans of distressed borrowers with subprime loans.
